Important Jailbreak Prerequisite:
Before we begin, if you wish to speed up the process and eliminate the possibility of encountering any errors, you’ll need to follow the simple restore procedure listed below – if you updated to any version of iOS 6 via Apple’s over-the-air (OTA) update feature, you must complete this tutorial before continuing.
  • Initiate a full backup of your iDevice via iTunes before jailbreaking your iPhone, iPod or iPad.
  • Retore to Apple’s latest 6.1 or 6.1.1 (on the iPhone 4S) firmware and continue. You should wait to restore your data until the jailbreak is complete.
  • Also, if your device has a passcode set, ensure that it’s disabled before following the instructions listed below.

How to Use Evasi0n For an iOS 6.1 UnTethered Jailbreak

Step 1:
Download Evasi0n from our download page to ensure that you have an authentic version of the tool.

Step 2:
Once Evasion has been downloaded in its entirety, extract the contents using the same method you would for any ordinary zip file (Mac users needn’t worry, as OS X automatically un-zips files). At this point we strongly advise that you place the files on your desktop for ease of use.

Step 3:
To continue through the jailbreaking process, connect your device to a computer via an official Apple USB cable.

Step 4:
Run the Evasi0n utility by launching the executable file downloaded in the first step. Once opened, you’ll be greeted by a basic window that features some useful text and a “Jailbreak” button.

Step 5:
If your iOS-based device was connected successfully, as listed in Step 3, the Jailbreak button will be clickable. Press the main button to initiate the untether jailbreak process.
Due to the jailbreak method employed by evasi0n, your device may look as if it’s restoring – don’t be alarmed, in actuality, it’s simply transferring the required jailbreak files.

Step 6:
At this point, the on-screen Evasi0n progress bar should display the active steps, it’s crucial that you refrain from touching your device, as it may interfere with the jailbreak process.

Step 7:
When prompted by evasi0n, click unlock your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and tap the Jailbreak icon once.

Step 8:
After the final process is complete, and your device has returned to its familiar lock screen, you’ll be greeted with the welcomed Cydia icon in what was once a blank springboard space. Congratulations, your device is now successfully jailbroken untethered and you’ll be able to install your favorite packages, tweaks and modifications from Cydia, provided they include support for your specific device.

Update: The evad3rs have updated the evasi0n jailbreak utility to version 1.1, readers can now download the revised evasion tool on our new download page.
Update 2: Following Apple’s iPhone 4S-exclusive release of iOS 6.1.1, the evad3rs have updated evasi0n to version 1.3 – we strongly recommend reading our in-depth overview and iOS 6.1.1 jailbreak tutorial.
